Christmas in July 2015

Norths Leagues Club

The Group had an enjoyable trip to Kallangur to celebrate Christmas in July. It was heaps of fun and several dressed for the occasion to top off a great day. The outing was organised by our very good committee man Bob Sutton. I would like to thank Bob for all his hard work in putting this lovely day out together for us.

Stradbroke Island (again)

The Redcliffe Cardiac Group enjoyed another lovely bus trip to Stradbroke Island.   Sure the weather could have been kinder as it was a little cloudy and we did have a bit of drizzle at times, but it stayed away while we enjoyed morning tea at Brown Lake and later when we did the gorge walk. We encountered kangaroos and many birds along the track which added to one of the most enjoyable places to walk that I’m aware of. (You don’t need to be an athlete either.)

After the walk we had a very nice lunch at the Point Lookout Bowls Club, where all I spoke to had nothing but praise for the meal. The staff at the Club were very courteous and helpful.

Lunch finished we ventured back to Dunwich and visited the Stradbroke Island Museum. This proved to be a real education as many articles revealed both hardships and pleasures encountered by Island locals, also much memorabilia was on display from times gone by.

We travelled with Redcliffe Coaches and Merv the driver was great, he left it to us to decide what we would like to see. A run out to Amity Point and then a drive around millionaires row was no problem at all.

All in all it was a very lovely trip that was well supported by members. I would like to thank Social Committee man Bob Sutton for his excellent work organising this trip.

     Boggo Road Tour

The Group had a great trip to Boggo Rd Gaol, this was a very informative tour and quite unbelievable some of the conditions that were still in place up until the 1980′s.
I am assured by all, that along with the  excellent lunch at the Yeronga  RSL , the day was real success. Thanks to our social committee man Bob Sutton for organising this terrific day out.

Lee turns 80

Long serving Cardiac Group member Lee Boby had a surprise birthday cake given to her at the last Wednesday’s walk courtesy of the group. It was shared with all those present.

Goodbye Jane

Well guys, I’m sad to say that we had to say goodbye to our longtime lovely Blue Nurse Jane. Jane has found a new position as a nurse, flying out to different areas to help those in rural Queensland get better medical treatment. While it is a great pleasure to see her get to do what she loves, we are deeply saddened to have to  say farewell. Jane has been with the Group since Bluecare joined us, and has been loved by many and has helped so many of us with our medical concerns and in general a very good friend to us all.

However on a happier note Jane says she will join us for our Wednesday walks  whenever she is at home.. So we may have lost a nurse but gained another walker. Hope we see her often.

2014 Christmas Party

Christmas Party

Our Christmas Party was once again a huge success, if you can go by all those I have spoken to. Once again the meal at the Leagues Club was outstanding. The ham in particular was the best we have had for years.

I think everyone enjoyed the Christmas Quiz Jackie Dadson set out for us, although she said the questions were easy and I think many would disagree. The reindeer candy canes also added to the occasion. Thanks Jackie. Below are some pics from the happy event.

Pumicestone Passage Boat Trip

It was a lovely way to spend a Monday , a tour around the Caloundra end of Pumicestone passage with lovely people on a ferry where the skipper gave a running commentary and pointed out heaps of wild life, from Osprey Eagles and Black Swans to many historical events.

On returning to the jetty, we went into the Tavern nearby and had a wonderful lunch. All those that attended appreciated Bob Sutton’s effort in getting the trip up and running.

Keep an eye out for the next trip, they are certainly worthwhile.

Seaside Cook Out

There was no monthly talk at Azure Blue this month, instead the brave souls who weathered the 5deg. temperature were treated to a healthy cooking demonstration by the Blucare  Dieticians. On the menu was Chilli Con Carne which I’m assured was just the thing for a cold morning and was enjoyed by all to the extent that everyone went back for seconds. Below are some pics courtesy of Joyce Bishop. Thanks Joyce.
